Berty Skuber

Berty Skuber sees her work as a kind of fantastic encyclopedia in which reality, dream and imagination equally participate, and are all perceived to lie on a single plane, or on intersecting planes that know no hierarchical order. Its point of departure is always to be found in her “calendars”—in her daily notations in words and images on personal and public events—and its point of arrival, conceptually, might be found in her videos. In between lie books, drawings, paintings, collages, objects, sculptures, assemblages, photography, correspondence and installations.

The first ten years of her calendars—double-sided, accordion calendars, from 1973 to 1982—are now in the collection of Bolzano’s Museion. Her work has been shown since the early 1970s in numerous personal and group exhibitions in Europe and  the United States; her videos have been presented in video festivals both in Europe and in Africa.
